The Road to Eternal Life

In a world of so many voices and opinions it can become difficult to know which of them is right and true. My purpose today is to define and declare the true doctrine of Jesus Christ concerning our journey through life and in returning to live with God once more in heaven.

In our Articles of Faith as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we read: "We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel." (Article of Faith 1:3)

This, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, would be the "new" law which would fulfill the need for the "old" law. This concept of Jesus Christ (new law) fulfilling the role of the Law of Moses (old law) is seen throughout the New Testament as Christ would be offered up as the "last" sacrifice given of heaven, even the Son of God. The text I would like to share with you today is found in the ninth chapter of the book of Hebrews. Speaking of Christ, Paul declared, "but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself...neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place (heaven) having obtained eternal redemption for us." (Hebrews 9: 26,12)

As a result of this perfect final sacrifice, all can receive a remission of our sins. The Gospel of Jesus Christ therefore, is to show us how we can be forgiven for our sins. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is comprised of five basic principles they are as follows:

1. Faith in Jesus Christ
2. Repentance
3. Baptism
4. Receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost
5. Enduring to the End

These principles are all taught throughout the scriptures. However, they are not always taught side by side. Rather, principle upon principle, "precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little." (Isaiah 28: 10)

In the continuing blog posts I will speak concerning each of these principles in more detail. I know that this, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the way. It is through Jesus Christ that we can return to our loving Father in Heaven. Perhaps the Son of God said best himself when he declared: "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." Of this, I testify.
